Rare 8 Annas George V King Emperor 1919 Calcutta Mint Cupro-Nickel Coin, British India Uniform Coinage, Collectible.

Ever since the start of British India Uniform Coinage in 1835, Half Rupee (8 Annas) Coins were issued in Silver. However in the year 1919 the British Monarchy decided to issue 8 Annas Coins and instead of Silver these coins were minted in Cupro-Nickel.
This led to huge discontent amongst people and they started to reject these coins. As a result by 1920 the minting of 8 Annas coins was discontinued, existing coins were recalled from general circulation and melted. This left only a very limited number of 8 Annas coins available today.
